Red Hair Color, Seeing Red Color, TipsI have a theory: humans love what's rare. Red is the hair colour least seen in nature, which (according to my theory) explains why it is one of the most popular salon and home hair-colour shades. Help celebrate humankinds love of red with the following trivia - 1. Only 2 to 3 percent of the entire human polulation has naturally red hair. 2. In England and Scotland, redheads comprise up to 10 per cent of the population. 3. Because red hair is a recessive genetic trait, scientists believe that red hair might totally disappear in the future. 4. Jesus is often depicted as having auburn hair and blue eyes. 5. Judas (Jesus' betrayer) and Eve (of Tree of Knowledge fame) are often depicted as redheads. 6. Queen Elizabeth I often wore a red wig over her tresses. 7. During the Middle Ages, female redheads were viewed as witches. In addition to being persecuted, red-haired women of the time were in danger of being executed for witchcraft. (Could today's lack of redheads have anything to do with these "witches", who may not have had a chance to pass on their red hair?) 8. During the 16th and 17th centuries, red hair became fashionable among upper-class men and women. 9. Within some Christian groups of the 18th and 19th centuries, red-haired children were "evidence" that their mothers had slept with Satan. |
